Current price range for premium motor spirit (petrol), sold per litre.
Petrol, known officially as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), is arguably the single most closely watched price in Nigeria, since it affects transport costs, generator running costs, and by extension, the price of almost everything else. Pump prices can differ noticeably between filling stations, between states, and even between major-brand stations and independent marketers, so we track a real, reported range rather than a single official pump price.
Since the removal of the fuel subsidy, pump prices have become far more directly linked to crude oil prices, the naira exchange rate, and refinery output, whether from local refineries or imported supply. This means petrol prices can shift meaningfully within weeks, and sometimes within days, following major currency or crude oil movements -- this is one of the fastest-moving prices we track on the entire site.
Prices also vary by location for logistical reasons: filling stations in or near Lagos and other coastal supply hubs sometimes see different pricing than stations further inland, where additional haulage cost is added. Independent marketers occasionally price slightly differently from major brands like the state-linked national retailer, sometimes lower, sometimes not, depending on their supply source and local competition.
Given how quickly this price moves, treat the range shown here as a recent snapshot rather than a fixed number -- always check current pump prices in your specific area, since fuel pricing can genuinely change from one week to the next.
How this is calculated. The range and average come from prices people reported, reviewed before they count. Reports within 10% of the current range apply immediately; anything further outside is checked by hand first.
