Current price range for a 12.5kg cooking gas (LPG) cylinder refill.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, has become the default cooking fuel for most urban Nigerian households, and the 12.5kg cylinder refill is the most common size tracked for household use. This page covers the cost of a refill only, not a new cylinder purchase, since most households already own a cylinder and simply return to refill it.
LPG pricing in Nigeria is closely tied to international gas prices and the naira exchange rate, since a meaningful share of supply is imported or priced against international benchmarks, even though Nigeria also produces gas domestically. This means cooking gas prices can shift with currency movements in a similar way to petrol, though usually somewhat less dramatically day to day.
Prices vary by outlet type: filling from a large, dedicated gas plant is often cheaper than a small neighbourhood gas seller, partly due to volume and partly due to differences in how accurately different sellers measure the refill (a well-calibrated scale at a proper plant reduces the chance of being shorted on quantity). Prices can also differ between cities, with major hubs sometimes offering more competitive rates due to higher plant density and competition.
We recommend refilling at a reputable, well-reviewed gas plant where possible, and confirming the refill is measured by weight rather than estimated, since this directly affects whether you are getting fair value at the price you pay.
How this is calculated. The range and average come from prices people reported, reviewed before they count. Reports within 10% of the current range apply immediately; anything further outside is checked by hand first.
