Nine-inch sandcrete blocks are the standard walling material for most residential and small commercial buildings across Nigeria. Unlike cement or iron rod, block prices are driven less by import costs and more by local factors: the cost of sand and cement in your specific area, the cost of labour to mould and cure the blocks, and how far the blockmaker's yard is from your site.

This is one of the more location-sensitive materials we track, because blocks are heavy, fragile, and expensive to transport over distance -- most buyers source them from a blockmaker within a reasonably short radius of their site rather than shipping them across the country. That means the "national range" on this page reflects a wider spread of prices than something like cement, which moves more uniformly.

Vibrated blocks (made with a mechanical vibrating machine) are generally more expensive than hand-moulded blocks because of their better strength and finish, and this page tracks the more common vibrated type used on most formal building projects. Buying directly from a blockmaker in bulk, rather than through a middleman, typically gets a better rate, and prices are often slightly lower outside the major cities where land and labour costs are lower.

Because blocks are bought in very large quantities for even a modest building, small per-block price differences add up quickly. Confirm the current price directly with a blockmaker near your site before placing a large order, since this range is a guide based on reports from buyers across different locations rather than a single fixed rate.

How this is calculated. The range and average come from prices people reported, reviewed before they count. Reports within 10% of the current range apply immediately; anything further outside is checked by hand first.
